Laptop Screen Replacement Cost in India (2026)

What a laptop screen replacement costs by panel type and machine class, why quotes differ so widely, and how to tell a panel fault from a cable or board fault.

Two shops can quote the same cracked screen at Rs 3,200 and Rs 9,500 and both can be honest. The difference is the panel behind the quote: its resolution, its finish, whether it is original or a compatible part, and whether the lid assembly has to come with it. Knowing which of those you are buying is the whole negotiation.

What actually sets the price

Four properties decide most of the number.

Panel size and resolution. A 14-inch 1366×768 panel is a commodity part. The same size at 1920×1080 costs more, and a 2.8K or OLED panel costs several times again.

Finish and touch. Matte panels are standard on business machines; glossy touch panels carry a digitiser bonded to the glass and cannot be swapped for a plain panel.

Original, compatible or refurbished. An original part matches what left the factory. A compatible panel meets the connector and resolution but may differ in brightness, colour gamut or PWM behaviour. A refurbished original is a used panel that passed testing.

What else is damaged. A cracked panel often arrives with a bent hinge, a torn display cable or a lid that no longer sits square. Those are separate lines.

The price bands

These are the ranges we work to for a panel replacement, fitted, in 2026.

Machine classPanel replacementTypical time
Budget laptop, 2–4 years oldRs 3,000 – Rs 5,500Same day to 48 hours
Mid-range, 3–6 years oldRs 4,500 – Rs 9,0001 to 3 days
Premium or MacBookRs 18,000 – Rs 45,0002 to 5 days, part dependent

Touch panels, 4K panels and full lid assemblies sit above these bands. A MacBook lid that includes the camera, antenna and hinge is a different part from a bare panel, and it is priced as one.

The same table, with battery, keyboard, trackpad and board work, is in the laptop repair cost comparison.

Why a cheap panel can cost more

A compatible panel that meets the connector spec can still differ in three ways that matter after the invoice is paid.

Brightness and colour. A 220-nit panel replacing a 300-nit original looks dull indoors and unusable near a window. Designers and photo editors notice colour shift immediately.

PWM flicker. Some low-cost panels dim by pulsing the backlight at a low frequency, which produces headaches for people who are sensitive to it. It is rarely mentioned in a quote.

Fit and finish. Bezel clips, webcam cutouts and cable routing vary by model. A panel that fits electrically but not mechanically rattles, or leaves a gap that collects dust.

If the laptop is used for eight hours a day, the difference between the cheapest panel and the correct one is usually smaller than a single day of lost work.

Original, compatible, refurbished

Ask which of the three the quote contains, in writing. Original parts cost more and are worth it on a machine you intend to keep for years. Compatible parts are reasonable on a secondary or backup machine. Refurbished originals sit between the two and should come with a tested-panel warranty rather than a shrug.

A quote that does not name the part type is not a quote yet.

When the panel is not the problem

Three faults look like a broken screen and are not.

A failing display cable. The image flickers or changes angle when the lid moves, or one colour channel drops out. Replacing the panel fixes nothing.

A board-level display fault. No backlight, or a picture that appears only on an external monitor, points at the GPU or the display connector on the mainboard.

A software or driver issue. A dim image, a wrong resolution or a screen that works in the BIOS but not in the operating system is not physical damage.

A shop that quotes a panel before testing for these three is guessing. The diagnostic step should be visible in the process, not skipped because the crack is obvious.

What a proper quote includes

  • The part type, resolution and finish, named
  • Labour and the turnaround time
  • Whether the old panel is returned to you
  • The warranty period on the part, and whether it covers bright spots and dead pixels
  • What happens if a second fault appears once the lid is open

The last item matters. Opening a lid can reveal a swollen battery pressing on the trackpad, or a hinge that has been cracking the frame. A shop that has not priced that possibility will either absorb it or surprise you.

When replacement stops making sense

On a machine worth less than the repair, a panel swap is money into a device that will fail somewhere else next. The rule of thumb: if the repair exceeds roughly half the replacement value of the laptop, and the machine is already four years old, put the money toward a new one.

The exception is data. If the drive holds work you cannot recreate, recover the data first and decide about the hardware afterwards. That path is covered in data recovery.

Where we do this

Screen work runs from our Noida and Delhi benches, with the same panel grades and the same written quote. Collection and return are available across both cities, and the diagnostic is done before a part is ordered rather than after.

FAQ

Is it cheaper to replace the panel or the whole lid?

Usually the panel, unless the lid is bent, the hinges are torn out of the chassis, or the model uses a bonded assembly. On several thin-and-light machines the lid is the only serviceable unit, which is why those quotes jump.

How long does a screen replacement take?

Same day for a common panel held in stock, one to three days for a mid-range part, and up to five days for a premium or MacBook assembly that has to be ordered. The estimate should be given before the part is ordered.

Can you replace just the glass on a touch screen?

Rarely as a clean job. The digitiser and glass are bonded, and separating them without damaging the panel is not reliable. On most touch models the assembly is replaced as one unit.

Will a new panel change the colour of the display?

It can, if the replacement differs in gamut or brightness. Ask for the panel specification in advance, and for a colour check before the machine is handed back.

Does a screen replacement void the warranty?

On a machine still under the manufacturer’s warranty, use the authorised route first. A third-party repair can void remaining coverage, even when the work is done well.

Can a cracked screen be used for a while?

It can, but a cracked panel can spread, and glass near the hinge can damage the cable or the digitiser. If the machine holds work you need, copy it off before waiting.
