Development Support in India

Development support in India is the capacity that keeps an existing product moving after launch. A live product needs more than a development team. It needs someone who fixes defects, keeps the production environment stable and ships releases without drama. Those are three different jobs, and buyers describe them differently.

Development support is the work that keeps an existing product useful after launch. It covers defects, small changes, production incidents and releases. Most businesses buy one of those first, then add the others as the product grows.

Development support in India: four jobs, not one

Application support, production support, deployment support and ongoing development support are often sold as one retainer. They are not the same job, and a provider that treats them as one usually does two of them badly.

The overlap is real, but the buyer's problem is specific. A business with a broken checkout needs application support. A business with a production outage needs production support. A business that is afraid to deploy needs deployment support. A business with a roadmap and no team needs ongoing development capacity.

Support typeWhat the buyer wantsTypical work
Application supportBugs fixed and the app kept currentDefect triage, patches, small changes, user issues
Production supportThe live system kept runningIncidents, uptime, hotfixes, release coordination
Deployment supportReleases shipped safelyRelease planning, staging checks, deployment, rollback
Ongoing developmentNew work delivered continuouslyEnhancements, new features, small projects, capacity
How onboarding works
01
Inventory: list the applications, environments, repositories, integrations and third-party services in scope.
02
Access: arrange accounts, monitoring, repositories and deployment credentials with the least privilege needed.
03
Runbook: document how the system is built, deployed, backed up and restored.
04
SLA: agree severity levels, response targets, support hours and the escalation path.
05
First 30 days: work in parallel with the current team, close the obvious gaps and review the first monthly report.
Which support do you need

Start with the symptom, not the service name. If users report defects and the fix sits in the code, that is application support. If the system is down, slow or losing data right now, that is production support.

If the code is ready but the release is risky, that is deployment support. If the work is a new feature, a workflow change or a small project, that is ongoing development.

Many clients need two: application support for defects and deployment support for releases. The plan can combine them, but the scope and response rules should stay separate.

What 24x7 coverage actually means

A 24x7 plan means someone is available to receive and triage an issue at any hour. It does not mean every issue is fixed in 30 minutes. An instant response, with a 30-minute maximum, includes an acknowledgement, an owner and the next update time.

The resolution time depends on severity, access and whether the fix needs a code change. A production outage is handled differently from a cosmetic defect reported on a Friday evening.

The plan should name the escalation path, the communication channel and the person accountable for the incident. Without those three, 24x7 becomes a phone number that nobody answers.

How support plans are priced

Support plans start from Rs 4,999 a month. The final figure depends on the support type, the hours covered, the number of applications, the response commitment and the monthly change allowance.

A plan with business-hours application support is different from a plan with 24x7 production coverage and a release window. The scope is written before the price, not after.

Work outside the plan is quoted as a change request. That includes new features, major redevelopment, third-party licence changes and work on systems that are not in the support inventory.

What every support plan excludes

Support is not a substitute for a development roadmap. New modules, major redesigns, platform migrations and new integrations are projects, even when the same team does them.

Third-party costs stay separate: cloud hosting, licences, message credits, payment gateway fees and vendor support contracts. The support plan covers our time and the agreed service, not the vendors' bills.

Hardware, network changes and device support sit with IT AMC or managed IT, not application support. Keeping that boundary clear prevents a support ticket from becoming an infrastructure project.

Choose the support page that matches the problem

Application support: application support services. Production support: production support services. Deployment support: deployment support services.

For the cost view, read software maintenance cost. For the build side, see custom software development. For pipeline setup, see DevOps and CI/CD services.

What to send before a support call

Send the application list, the current incident or defect, the environments involved and the access you can provide. If there is an existing runbook or monitoring dashboard, include it.

Write to [email protected] with the support type and the response requirement, or message the team on WhatsApp.

What the monthly support report includes

The report lists incidents by severity, the fixes released, the hours used, the changes delivered and the risks still open. It also names the next action and the owner for each open item.

A report that only counts tickets is not useful. The review should show which defects keep returning, which releases caused incidents and which parts of the system are becoming fragile. Those patterns decide the next quarter's work.

Review the plan every quarter. A support scope that never changes either means the product is stable or the plan is not covering the work. The report and the ticket history will tell you which.

It should be reviewed with the client, not filed away.

No. The response is instant, with a 30-minute maximum; that is a response time, not a fix time. Resolution depends on severity, access and whether the fix needs a code change.
Application support fixes defects and keeps the app current. Production support keeps the live environment running, handles incidents and coordinates hotfixes.
Deployment support plans and executes releases, including staging checks, deployment, rollback and post-release verification.
Yes. A common plan combines application support for defects with deployment support for releases, while production coverage is added separately.
Yes, after a handover review. We need the repository, runbook, access and a short period to assess the code before committing to response targets.
New features are change requests or a separate development block. They are not absorbed into the support retainer.
New modules, major redesigns, platform migrations, third-party licences, cloud bills and device or network support.
A simple application can be onboarded in one to two weeks. A multi-service system with unclear access or no runbook takes longer.
