Production Support in India

Production support in India is the incident layer for live systems. Production support starts when the system is live and something is wrong. The database is slow, a payment callback is failing, a certificate expired or an integration is returning errors. The work is to contain the incident, restore service and prevent a repeat.

Share your requirement, current setup, and expected timeline. We will help you scope the right service approach quickly.

Production Support Services

Production support is about the running system, not the codebase in isolation. It covers detection, triage, containment, recovery and the follow-up that stops the same incident from returning. It is closest to an operations service, with application context.

What production support in India covers

The core is incident response. An alert fires or a user reports a failure, and the support team confirms the impact, assigns a severity and starts containment.

Around the incident sit monitoring, release coordination and routine checks: dashboards, logs, queues, disk space, certificates, backups and third-party status pages. Most of that work is quiet until it is missing.

Production support also owns the hotfix path. When a fix cannot wait for the normal release, the team coordinates the change, the approval, the deployment and the verification.

How production support starts
01
Inventory: applications, environments, dependencies, monitoring and on-call contacts.
02
Access: read access to logs and dashboards, plus the minimum write access needed for incidents.
03
Runbook: architecture, deployment, rollback, backup, restore and known failure modes.
04
Severity workshop: agree the levels, examples and escalation path.
05
Shadow period: run alongside the current team for two to four weeks before taking primary on-call.
Severity levels and response targets

Severity is defined by impact, not by the tone of the message. A payment failure affecting all users is critical even if the report is calm. A cosmetic issue on an internal report is low even if it is reported urgently.

An instant response, with a 30-minute maximum, includes an acknowledgement and an owner assignment. The resolution estimate follows after triage, and it is communicated with the next update time.

SeverityTypical impactResponse target
CriticalService unavailable, data loss, payment failureInstant, 30-minute maximum, 24x7
HighMajor function degraded, workaround limitedInstant, 30-minute maximum, in coverage hours
MediumFunction impaired, workaround availableFour business hours
LowCosmetic or single-user issueNext business day
Monitoring, alerts and on-call

Monitoring is only useful if an alert reaches a person who can act. The plan should define which signals page someone, which wait for business hours and which are dashboard-only.

Start with the signals that map to user impact: uptime, error rate, latency, queue depth, payment success, login success and certificate expiry. Add infrastructure signals after the user-facing ones are trustworthy.

On-call needs a rota, an escalation path and a rule for when to wake someone. A 24x7 phone number without a rota is not coverage.

Hotfixes and emergency releases

A hotfix is a change made outside the normal release cycle to restore service. It needs a shorter approval path, but not no approval. The plan should name who can approve an emergency change and what evidence is required.

Every hotfix should be followed by a normal release that includes the same change in the main branch, plus a short review of why the emergency was needed.

If hotfixes happen every week, the problem is the release process, not the incident. That is a signal to move to deployment support.

Backup, DR and certificate checks

A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a control. Production support includes a restore test at an agreed frequency, with the result recorded.

Disaster recovery needs a runbook, a recovery time objective and a recovery point objective. If those numbers do not exist, the first DR test becomes a discovery project.

Certificates, domains and third-party credentials should be tracked with expiry dates and an owner. These are small failures with disproportionate impact.

What production support does not cover

New features, major enhancements, redesigns and migrations are development work. Production support may coordinate the release, but it does not build the feature.

Device support, network changes, server provisioning and user helpdesk sit with IT AMC or managed IT. Application defects that are not incidents go to application support.

Third-party vendor outages are outside our control, but the support team still communicates status and workarounds to users.

Production support versus application support

Production support owns the live incident: detection, containment, communication and recovery. Application support owns the code fix and the normal defect queue. The two work together, but the escalation and response rules are different.

Read application support services for defect work and development support services for the full support model.

What to document before go-live

Prepare the architecture diagram, environment list, deployment and rollback steps, monitoring dashboard, backup schedule, restore test result, certificate inventory and the on-call contact list.

Write to [email protected] with the system stack and the coverage requirement, or message the team on WhatsApp.

Incident communication and review

During an incident, the support team sends a short status at agreed intervals: what is affected, what is being done, the next update time and the workaround if one exists. The updates go to a named list, not a general channel.

After recovery, a short review covers the timeline, the cause, the impact, the fix and the actions that prevent a repeat. The review is written for the business owner, not only for engineers.

Review coverage after every critical incident. The rota, the alert thresholds and the escalation list are living parts of the service, not a one-time setup.

The next review should confirm that each action has an owner and a date.

Frequently Asked Questions
It includes incident detection, triage, containment, recovery, hotfix coordination and the monitoring checks that prevent repeat failures.
Production coverage starts from Rs 4,999 a month. The final price depends on coverage hours, systems, severity commitments, on-call requirements and release coordination.
No. The response is instant, with a 30-minute maximum, and includes an owner assignment. Resolution time depends on the cause, access and whether a code change is needed.
Service unavailability, data loss, payment failure or a security event affecting users. Severity is based on impact, not on how the report is worded.
Yes, with an agreed rota, escalation path and coverage hours. The shadow period runs before primary on-call starts.
Yes. A hotfix follows an emergency change path with named approval, deployment, verification and a follow-up normal release.
Monitoring setup can be included or connected to your existing stack. The plan defines which alerts page someone and which stay on a dashboard.
Production support handles the live incident and the running environment. Application support handles the code fix and the normal defect queue.
Yes, after a runbook and access review. The shadow period may be longer if the architecture or monitoring is undocumented.
