Website Security Hardening in India (2026)
Most small-business sites are not breached by a clever attack. They are breached through an outdated plugin, a reused password, an admin login left open to the internet, or a theme downloaded from a piracy site. Hardening is the work of closing those doors before someone tries them.

The uncomfortable part of website security is that a site can be compromised for weeks before anyone notices. Search results get injected, redirects appear on mobile only, or the site joins a spam campaign quietly. Finding the entry point matters more than deleting the visible files.
How small business sites actually get compromised
Four routes cover most cases: an unpatched plugin or theme with a known vulnerability, an administrator password reused from another breach, an admin panel reachable from the internet with no second factor, and a nulled or pirated theme carrying a backdoor.
None of those require a skilled attacker. They are automated, and the site is found by scanning rather than by being targeted.
Core, plugins, themes and the language runtime all receive security releases. The risk is not the update itself but the lack of a staging copy and a rollback, which is why sites stop updating and stay vulnerable for years.
We test on staging, keep a database snapshot before production changes, and remove plugins nobody uses, because every inactive plugin is still code on the server.
File permissions that do not allow the web process to write to application code, directory listing off, error display off in production, database users limited to what the application needs, and a firewall that allows only required ports.
None of these are visible to visitors and all of them reduce what an attacker can do after a first foothold.
Strict transport security, a content security policy, frame protection and a correct content-type policy. The content security policy is the fiddly one, because it has to list every legitimate script source, including the tags marketing added.
HTTPS everywhere is the baseline; mixed content and an expiring certificate are still among the most common causes of a browser warning.
Deleting the visible payload usually leads to reinfection, because the entry point is still open. The order is: take the site offline or into maintenance, identify the entry point, restore from a known-good backup where possible, patch what allowed it, then verify files and database against a clean copy.
Search engine warnings and blacklist removal are a separate step, and they take longer than the cleanup.
File-integrity checks, failed-login alerts, outbound connection monitoring and a weekly malware scan. The quiet compromises are the ones that use your site to send mail or serve redirects, and they are visible in outbound traffic long before they are visible on a page.
A clean, off-server backup is the difference between a bad afternoon and a lost business. It has to be recent enough to be useful, isolated enough that ransomware cannot reach it, and tested so the restore actually works.
SPF, DKIM and DMARC stop someone sending invoices as your domain, which is a common follow-on after a compromise. If those records are missing, the site is not the only thing at risk.
Send the platform and version, the plugin list, whether the site has been compromised before, and who currently has administrator access. If there is an active infection, say so, because containment comes before hardening.

What hardening costs
Hardening starts at Rs 7,999 for a single site: access review, patching, permissions, headers and monitoring. Malware cleanup, blacklist removal and recovery from an active infection are quoted separately, because the scope depends on what was changed.
Firewall and monitoring subscriptions are billed by their providers. We do not mark them up.
What the hardening scope includes
- Access review: administrators, former accounts, second factor
- Patch level check with a staging-safe update run
- File and directory permission review
- Security headers, HTTPS and mixed-content check
- Off-server backup verification and a restore test
- File-integrity and failed-login monitoring
If the site is already compromised
Tell us first rather than after the cleanup. Containment, evidence of the entry point and a clean restore are a different job, and doing it in the wrong order usually means the infection returns.
