Accessibility Audit

Website Accessibility Audit in India (2026)

Accessibility is what decides whether a person using a keyboard, a screen reader or a magnifier can complete the task the site exists for. Automated checkers catch perhaps a third of the problems, which is why an audit has to include real tasks, not just a scan.

Website Accessibility Audit

A scan produces a list. An audit produces a judgement: which failures block a task, which are cosmetic, and which can be fixed once in the design system rather than page by page. Buyers and public-sector tenders increasingly ask for that judgement in writing.

What WCAG 2.2 AA means in practice

Four ideas sit behind the standard: content must be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. In practice that means text alternatives, enough contrast, keyboard operation, clear labels, predictable navigation and markup that assistive technology can interpret.

AA is the level most procurement asks for. The 2.2 revision added criteria around focus visibility, dragging alternatives and consistent help, all of which affect real forms.

How the audit is run
01
Scope: the journeys that matter — search, product or service page, form, checkout, account.
02
Automated pass: a scan across templates, used as a starting list rather than a result.
03
Keyboard pass: every task completed with no mouse, checking focus order and visibility.
04
Screen reader pass: at least two combinations, testing headings, forms and errors.
05
Zoom and contrast: 200% zoom, reflow at mobile width, and contrast measured on real components.
Why an automated scan is not an audit

Scanners detect missing alt attributes, low contrast and some structural errors. They cannot tell whether the alt text is meaningful, whether focus order matches the visual order, or whether a modal traps a keyboard user.

They also produce false positives, which is how teams end up "fixing" things that were never broken while the blocking issues remain.

The failures we see most

Form fields without labels, error messages that are colour-only, buttons that are divs with a click handler, modals that do not return focus, carousels that cannot be paused, and images whose alt text says "image".

Headings are usually the cheapest structural fix: one H1, a logical order, and no headings used purely for size.

The deliverable

A list of issues with the WCAG criterion, the affected template, severity, the user impact, the recommended fix and an effort estimate. Blocking issues first, then template-wide fixes that remove many instances at once.

Where a fix belongs in the design system, it is flagged once rather than repeated for every page.

Audit versus remediation

The audit is evidence. Remediation is the work. Some clients have a developer who can implement the fixes; others want us to. Both are legitimate, and keeping them separate keeps the audit honest.

Accessibility and SEO overlap

Semantic headings, meaningful link text, alt text, captions and a crawlable structure help both. That overlap is why accessibility work is often funded from the SEO budget, and why fixing it rarely harms rankings.

Keeping it accessible after launch

Add the checks to the design review, keep a small regression list, and test new templates before release. An audit is a snapshot; a design system with accessibility rules is what prevents the same issues returning.

What the audit does not cover

Native mobile apps, PDFs beyond a sample, and content in languages the team cannot review. Those can be scoped separately, and pretending otherwise would make the report less useful.

Who asks for an accessibility audit

Public-sector tenders, banks, insurers, large employers and education platforms are the usual buyers, because their procurement teams ask for evidence rather than assurances. A written report against WCAG 2.2 AA is what that evidence looks like.

Smaller businesses usually start because a customer complained or because a form was unusable on a phone with a large font setting. Both are legitimate reasons, and both are cheaper to fix before a redesign than after one.

What to send before an accessibility quote

Send the site URL, the templates in scope, the journeys that matter, and any standard the buyer has specified. If a tender names WCAG 2.2 AA, send the document, because the wording sometimes includes extra criteria.

What an accessibility audit costs

Audits start at Rs 50,000 for a site with up to ten templates and five key journeys, covering automated, keyboard and screen-reader testing plus a ranked report. Larger sites and remediation work are quoted separately.

Assistive technology licences and specialist user testing, where requested, are separate line items.

What the audit includes

  • Template inventory and journey selection
  • Automated scan across templates, triaged for false positives
  • Keyboard-only completion of each journey
  • Screen-reader testing on two browser and reader combinations
  • Zoom, reflow and contrast checks on real components
  • Ranked report with WCAG references and effort estimates

Before the audit starts

Confirm the templates in scope, whether authenticated areas are included, and who will implement the fixes. An audit with no owner becomes a document rather than a change.

Send the site and the standard

Write to [email protected] with the site URL, the templates in scope and any standard your buyer has named, or send the same on WhatsApp.

If a tender deadline is driving the work, call 7840002466 early. The audit takes two to three weeks, and remediation after it takes longer than most deadlines allow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Audits start at Rs 50,000 for up to ten templates and five key journeys, including automated, keyboard and screen-reader testing with a ranked report. Remediation and larger scopes are quoted separately.
WCAG 2.2 level AA by default, because that is what most procurement and tenders reference. If your buyer names a different level or an extra framework, send the document and it is scoped in.
No. Scanners catch a subset of issues and produce false positives. Keyboard and screen-reader testing is what finds blocked tasks, focus traps and unlabelled forms.
Public-sector and large buyers increasingly ask for WCAG evidence, and disability rights law applies to many organisations. We audit and report; legal advice on your obligations should come from your counsel.
Usually not. Most fixes are invisible: labels, focus states, heading order, contrast adjustments and keyboard behaviour. Where a visual change is needed, it is proposed with the trade-off stated.
Yes, with at least two browser and screen-reader combinations, plus keyboard-only testing. Where user testing with disabled participants is wanted, that is scoped as a separate activity.
Two to three weeks for the standard scope, depending on how many templates and authenticated areas are included.
We can, quoted separately from the audit. Some clients prefer their own developer to implement from the report, which keeps the audit independent.
It overlaps: semantic headings, link text, alt text, captions and clean structure help both. It is not a ranking tactic, but the fixes rarely hurt and often improve crawlability.
The site URL, templates in scope, the journeys that matter, and any standard or tender wording the buyer has specified.
