Accessibility Cost

Accessibility Audit Cost in India (2026)

Accessibility is judged by whether a person using a keyboard or a screen reader can complete a task, not by whether a scanner reports zero errors. Automated tools catch perhaps a third of real barriers, which is why a credible audit is mostly manual and priced by templates rather than by pages.

Accessibility Audit Cost

The useful unit is the template: a product page, a checkout, a form and a dashboard each behave differently and each needs its own testing. A site with ten templates and a thousand pages costs far less than a site with fifty templates.

Accessibility audit cost by scope in 2026

Ranges assume a web application or site with a defined set of templates and user journeys.

Ongoing cost depends on how often the interface changes. A quarterly spot check is cheaper than an annual full audit and catches regressions before they accumulate.

WCAG 2.2 AA and what conformance means
01
Perceivable. Text alternatives, captions, contrast and content that survives zoom and reflow.
02
Operable. Keyboard access, visible focus, no traps, enough time and no motion-triggered hazards.
03
Understandable. Consistent navigation, clear errors and labels that do not rely on placeholder text.
04
Robust. Correct semantics so assistive technology can interpret the interface.
05
New in 2.2. Focus not obscured, dragging alternatives, consistent help and redundant entry rules.
06
Conformance level. AA is the usual target; AAA is rarely achievable for a whole product.
Manual testing versus automated scans

Scanners are fast and cheap and find missing labels, contrast failures and some structural issues. They cannot tell whether a modal traps keyboard focus, whether an error message is announced, or whether a custom dropdown is usable without a mouse.

A proper audit therefore combines automated passes with keyboard-only navigation, screen reader testing on at least two combinations, and zoom and reflow checks. That work is what the fee buys.

Remediation and re-testing

Audit findings are only useful if they are specific: the element, the rule, the user impact and the suggested fix. Reports that list violations without location produce a remediation project with no owner.

Re-testing should be scoped at the start. Fixing thirty issues and verifying none of them is a common way to spend the budget twice, and a VPAT built without verification is a liability rather than an asset.

Audit templates before auditing pages

Identify every distinct template and component state first. Ten templates audited properly reveal more than a thousand pages sampled superficially.

Keep accessibility in the release checklist

Contrast, focus order and label checks belong in design review and QA. Catching them at build time costs minutes; catching them at audit time costs a project.

Questions for an accessibility auditor

Ask which assistive technologies they test with. Ask whether remediation is included. Ask how findings are prioritised by user impact rather than by rule number.

Send the page count and platform

Write to [email protected] with the platform, the number of distinct templates and whether forms or checkout are involved, or send the same on WhatsApp. Templates decide the estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions
A single-template review costs Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,20,000, a small site Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,50,000, and a full application Rs 2,50,000 to Rs 5,00,000. Remediation and re-testing add Rs 75,000 to Rs 4,00,000 depending on the number of fixes.
Rarely. Templates and component states drive the work, because a thousand pages built from ten templates need ten audits. A site with many unique layouts costs more even with fewer pages.
Automated scans, manual keyboard testing, screen reader checks, zoom and reflow testing, a prioritised findings report and a walkthrough session. Remediation, re-testing and VPAT drafting are usually separate.
WCAG 2.2 Level AA is the common expectation for websites and applications, and it is what most accessibility statements reference. Level AAA is rarely achievable across an entire product.
No. Automated tools catch a minority of barriers and cannot judge keyboard traps, announcement quality or whether a custom component is usable. They are a useful first pass, not an audit.
Two to four weeks for a small site, four to eight weeks for an application with complex forms and tables. Remediation typically takes longer than the audit itself.
If you sell to public sector or enterprise buyers, often yes. A VPAT should be based on a real audit rather than self-assessment, because inaccurate claims create contractual exposure.
After any significant interface change, and at least annually. Quarterly spot checks on key journeys catch regressions earlier and cost less than a full re-audit.
Partly. Semantic markup, captions, alt text and clear structure help both. Accessibility is not a ranking tactic, but the overlap means fixes often improve crawlability and page experience.
