Data Erasure Software

Data Wipe Software for Laptop and Computer

Data wipe software for laptop and desktop computers has to prove what happened after the erase, not just show a progress bar. A factory reset leaves recoverable files; a controlled wipe run should leave a verified record.

Data Wipe Software for Laptop and Computer

A laptop or desktop can reach a workshop locked, unbootable or without its original operating system. The wipe has to start before Windows loads, erase the selected SSD or HDD and produce a certificate that the next buyer or auditor can check.

Why a factory reset is not a data wipe

A factory reset removes the file table and reinstalls an operating system. It does not guarantee that the old files are gone. On a used laptop or desktop, that difference matters when the machine leaves your workshop and enters a resale counter, a lease return or an ITAD batch.

Data wipe software overwrites the storage instead. The operator selects the drive, chooses an erase method and lets the run finish. The result is not a cleaner desktop; it is a record that the SSD or HDD was erased and checked.

That record is the part a buyer, lessor or auditor actually needs. Without it, a laptop that looks clean can still carry the previous owner's files.

Rollout
01
Bench review: intake, drive types, network and certificate handover.
02
Boot media: Ethernet image first, optional Wi-Fi image where the bench needs it.
03
First run: one laptop and one desktop with different drive types.
04
Pilot: a mixed batch with a failed upload and a released licence.
05
Handover: portal access, certificate checks and operator training.
Data wipe software for laptop and computer estates

A computer estate is rarely one model. It includes business laptops, desktop towers, all-in-one PCs and a few machines that no longer boot. Data wipe software for laptop and computer work has to handle that mix without asking the technician to install an operating system first.

The CoreInspect Wipe approach boots the machine from a USB stick or ISO. The target computer starts in WinPE, connects to the CoreInspect API and claims one wipe licence. The operator then sees the internal drives, selects the target and chooses an erase method.

The boot media is excluded from the drive list, so a technician cannot erase the USB stick by mistake. A laptop with two drives is still one device and one licence, and the certificate records the storage that was erased. A desktop with a separate SSD and HDD can be handled in the same session, with the selected drive named on the certificate.

This is also why the page stays with laptop and desktop computers. A different device class needs its own storage, encryption and certificate workflow. The computer wipe belongs in the refurbishment and ITAD process.

Erase methods on SSD and HDD

Not every drive supports the same command. The software offers three methods so the operator can match the method to the hardware and the client's requirement.

Quick erase runs a single-pass overwrite. It is the fastest option and is useful when a computer is being cleared for internal reuse rather than resale.

Secure erase runs a three-pass overwrite in the DoD 5220.22-M style. It takes longer but gives the workshop a recognised standard to quote on a handover document.

Purge is the recommended selection when the job needs the strongest available path. Hardware NVMe Sanitize and ATA Secure Erase are not enabled yet; they need controller-by-controller validation before release. Until then, Purge runs a verified three-pass overwrite fallback and records that the hardware path did not run. The certificate states the method that was actually used, not the method that was requested.

That honesty matters. A wipe certificate that claims a hardware purge when the software ran an overwrite is worse than no certificate, because it misleads the next owner and the auditor.

Read-back verification and the certificate

A progress bar is not proof. After the overwrite, the software reads the drive back and records the result, the pass count and the storage identity. The job can close only when that verification step is complete.

The certificate is generated server-side and downloaded from the CoreInspect portal under Wipe Jobs. It carries the certificate ID, completion time, computer manufacturer and model, system serial, storage model and serial, capacity and bus, erase method and standard, verification result, operator and company.

A QR code on the certificate opens a public verification page. The record is signed with Ed25519, so editing a field after completion invalidates the signature. A buyer can scan the code instead of calling the workshop, and an auditor can check the same record without a spreadsheet.

The certificate is not shown on the computer being erased. The boot screen ends with a completion state and the certificate ID; the document lives in the portal. This keeps the evidence in one controlled place and avoids a technician photographing a screen as proof.

Network, licence and boot control

The agent needs a live connection before sign-in, licence claim and completion. Ethernet is built into the boot image. An optional Wi-Fi build adds common enterprise profiles, but a captive portal is not supported because WinPE has no browser.

Each wipe claims one licence before the erase starts. If the job fails or is cancelled, the licence returns to the batch and the wallet is refunded. If the erase finishes but the upload fails, the computer shows a retry option and keeps the completion payload in memory; it does not restart the wipe.

A job left running beyond the stale-job window is released automatically. That returns the licence and stops a dead session from blocking the next computer in the queue.

The price is Rs 50 per device. A laptop and a desktop both count as one device; the licence is claimed per machine, and the certificate records the storage that was erased.

Data erasure software for refurbishers and ITAD teams

Computer refurbishers need a repeatable bench process. A batch of lease-return laptops arrives with asset tags, mixed drive types and no guarantee that Windows still boots. The wipe run gives each machine a record before it is graded, rebuilt or sold.

ITAD teams need a chain of custody that survives a client audit. The portal keeps the job, the certificate and a CSV export with the certificate ID, machine and storage identity, method, operator and signature status. Exports are audit-logged, and text fields are escaped so a spreadsheet cannot execute a formula.

Data erasure software also helps the sales side. A resale listing can point to a certificate instead of a claim. A lease return can show the lessor that the drive was erased before the machine left the site. A client report can carry the same evidence without a second manual write-up.

The workflow is deliberately narrow: erase the selected computer drive, verify it, issue the certificate and keep the record. It does not pretend to recover data, repair hardware or reinstall Windows.

What this engagement does not cover

Hardware repair, data recovery, operating-system licensing, network cabling and physical destruction are separate services. Erasure for other device classes is a different workflow and is not covered by this computer-focused page. Legal advice on a specific retention rule is also outside the build.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is bootable software that erases the selected SSD or HDD in a laptop or desktop, verifies the write and issues a certificate of erasure for that drive.
No. A factory reset removes the file table and reinstalls an operating system, but old files may remain recoverable. A wipe overwrites the storage and records the result.
Quick runs a single pass, Secure runs a three-pass DoD-style overwrite, and Purge runs a verified three-pass fallback while hardware sanitize remains lab-gated.
Yes. The operator selects the internal drive, and the certificate records its model, serial, capacity and bus along with the method used.
Not yet. Those commands need controller validation before release. When Purge is selected, the job records that the fallback ran instead of claiming a hardware purge.
The price is Rs 50 per device. Each computer claims one licence and receives its certificate, whatever the drive count.
No. The software boots into WinPE before Windows starts, so a locked, unbootable or freshly wiped computer can still run the erase workflow.
It records the certificate ID, completion time, computer make and model, system serial, storage identity, method and standard, verification result, operator, company and a QR verification link.
