Dedicated Team Cost

Dedicated Development Team Cost in India (2026)

A dedicated team is priced like a subscription and behaves like a department. You pay for capacity rather than for output, which is efficient when the roadmap is continuous and wasteful when the work arrives in bursts that nobody planned for.

Dedicated Development Team Cost

The invoice usually quotes a blended monthly rate per person. The useful comparison is cost per shipped release, because a team without a product owner produces motion rather than progress, and the monthly bill looks identical either way.

Dedicated development team cost by role in 2026

Rates are monthly, per person, and assume full-time allocation with a minimum engagement of three to six months.

A four-person team with a lead typically lands between Rs 8,00,000 and Rs 14,00,000 a month. The same scope as a fixed-price project is often quoted lower on paper, because project pricing spreads risk across a defined outcome.

What a monthly rate includes
01
Allocated people. Named engineers, not a pool that changes with the vendor's other commitments.
02
Delivery management. Planning, stand-ups, review and reporting, usually the lead's time.
03
Tooling and infrastructure. Repository, CI minutes, tracking tools and development environments.
04
Knowledge retention. Documentation and handover practice while the team is engaged.
05
Replacement cover. A defined process if someone leaves, with a stated notice period.
06
Overhead of employment. Recruitment, payroll, benefits and attrition sit inside the rate.
Ramp-up, replacement and notice periods

New team members take four to eight weeks to become productive on an unfamiliar codebase. That ramp-up is either included in the engagement or billed, and the difference matters over a six-month contract.

Replacement terms deserve the same attention. If an engineer leaves, who bears the transition cost, how quickly is a replacement named, and does the client get a say in the hire? A contract silent on those questions transfers the risk to you.

Team size and the management overhead

Every additional person adds coordination cost, and the curve is not linear. Beyond six or seven people the team needs a dedicated lead, and beyond twelve it needs structure that a small business rarely has in place.

That is why a smaller team with clear priorities usually out-delivers a larger one with a vague backlog. The monthly bill rewards neither, which is why the client side needs someone accountable for the roadmap.

Price the team against a project quote

For a defined scope, ask for both a fixed-price quote and a team rate. The difference tells you what certainty costs, and it is usually a reasonable premium.

Keep the roadmap in house

A dedicated team executes; it should not decide what matters. Assign a product owner on your side, even part-time, or the team will optimise for activity it can see.

Questions for a team provider

Ask whether the named engineers are exclusively allocated. Ask what happens at the end of the engagement. Ask how many people left the account last year.

Send the roles, seniority and expected duration

Write to [email protected] with the roles you need, how long the work will run and who owns priorities on your side, or send the same on WhatsApp. Duration decides whether a team or a project fits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Monthly rates range from Rs 1,20,000 for a junior engineer to Rs 4,20,000 for a senior, with a lead at Rs 2,50,000 to Rs 4,00,000. A four-person team typically costs Rs 8,00,000 to Rs 14,00,000 a month.
Not usually on paper. Project pricing bundles risk into a defined scope, while a team rate pays for capacity regardless of output. The team model becomes better value when the roadmap is continuous and changes often.
Named engineers, delivery management, tooling, development environments, documentation practice and replacement cover. Hardware, third-party licences and production hosting may be separate depending on the contract.
Three to six months is common, because shorter periods are consumed by ramp-up. Below that, a fixed-scope project or staff augmentation is usually more economical.
Four to eight weeks on an existing codebase, longer where documentation is poor. The ramp-up period should be stated in the contract, including whether it is billed at full rate.
You should be able to interview the proposed team and refuse a replacement. A provider that assigns people without a client interview is selling capacity rather than a team.
The provider should replace them within an agreed period and cover the transition. The contract should also state how knowledge is documented so the replacement is not starting from nothing.
Usually by a provider-side lead for delivery and a client-side product owner for priorities. Splitting those responsibilities clearly is more important than the reporting format.
You do. Code, documentation and infrastructure configuration should be in your accounts, with access for the team. Ownership should survive the end of the engagement without negotiation.
