Cloud Migration Cost

Cloud Migration Cost in India (2026)

The migration invoice is the small number. The decision that determines cost is whether each workload is lifted as-is, re-platformed or rebuilt, and that decision is usually made in a meeting where nobody has inventoried the servers. Most overruns start there.

Cloud Migration Cost in India

A migration is a sequence of moves, not one project. Each workload has dependencies, a data volume and an acceptable downtime. Pricing it as a single lump sum hides the fact that most of the effort sits in the three or four workloads nobody wanted to look at.

Cloud migration cost by estate size in 2026

Estate size is measured in servers and databases, not in users. A handful of large databases can take longer than twenty small application servers.

An office with a handful of application servers and one database typically spends Rs 2,00,000 to Rs 4,00,000 to move, including testing and a rollback plan. Refactoring an application for cloud-native services is a development project and is priced separately.

What drives migration cost
01
Inventory quality. Servers nobody documented are the expensive ones. Assessment pays for itself by finding them before cutover.
02
Move type. Lift-and-shift is cheapest per workload; re-platforming and rebuilding cost multiples of it.
03
Data volume and transfer. Large datasets need a transfer appliance or a seeded copy, both of which take time and money.
04
Downtime windows. A business that can accept a weekend outage is cheaper to migrate than one that cannot.
05
Dependencies. Authentication, file shares and integrations must move in the right order or nothing works.
06
Compliance. Data residency, logging and encryption requirements add design and evidence work.
The bill after migration

Cloud running cost is not comparable with an old server's purchase price. Budget for compute, storage, backup, egress, monitoring and support. A realistic starting point is Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,50,000 a month for a small to mid estate, and the first bill is often higher than expected because nothing is right-sized yet.

Plan a cost review at thirty and ninety days. Turning off forgotten instances, setting storage lifecycle rules and buying committed capacity usually cuts the first bill by twenty to forty percent.

Migrate in waves, not in one night

Group workloads by dependency and risk. Move the least critical first, learn the cutover process, then move the rest. A single big-bang cutover is the most common cause of multi-day outages.

What to ask before signing

Ask for the server inventory and who owns each application. Ask what the rollback plan is and how long it can be maintained. Ask who pays if the cloud bill exceeds the estimate in month one.

Moving workloads often exposes reporting gaps that pipelines have to close; data engineering cost covers that work.

Release automation usually follows a migration rather than preceding it; DevOps CI CD cost describes the pipeline build.

The bill often grows after migration rather than before, and cloud cost optimisation services cost covers the audits that bring it back down.

Send your server list and downtime window

Share the number of servers, databases, their operating systems and the outage window you can accept, at [email protected], or send the list on WhatsApp. Downtime tolerance changes the plan more than server count.

Frequently Asked Questions
Assessment costs Rs 75,000 to Rs 2,50,000. A small estate of up to ten servers costs Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 5,00,000 to move, a mid estate Rs 5,00,000 to Rs 15,00,000, and a large or regulated estate with refactoring up to Rs 40,00,000.
Yes, by a wide margin. Lift-and-shift moves servers as they are, with minimal change. Re-platforming and rebuilding cost two to five times more but can reduce the monthly bill and improve reliability.
Inventory and assessment, a migration plan, network and identity setup, workload migration, data transfer, testing, cutover support and a rollback plan. Application refactoring and cloud subscription are separate.
Assessment takes three to six weeks. A small estate moves in six to ten weeks, a mid estate in ten to twenty, and a large estate with refactoring in twenty to forty. Application owners' availability decides more than the technical work.
Not automatically. Lift-and-shift often costs more monthly than aging hardware, because you pay for both the old and new during transition. Savings come from right-sizing, shutting down idle resources and removing licence duplication.
A written rollback plan and a retained copy of the source environment are the protection. Agree how long the old environment stays available after cutover, and who decides to roll back.
Not in the first move. Lift-and-shift first, then refactor the workloads where the running cost or reliability justifies it. Refactoring during the initial migration multiplies risk.
You do. The account, billing, data and root credentials should be in your name, with the provider given delegated access. An account in an agency's name is a dependency that is hard to unwind.
A small to mid estate typically runs Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,50,000 a month across compute, storage, backup and monitoring. Review at thirty and ninety days, because the first bill reflects no right-sizing.
