IoT App Development Cost in India (2026)

An IoT product is three products pretending to be one: firmware on a device you may not control, a cloud service that must never lose an event, and an application that has to explain a sensor to someone who has never seen it. Most budgets cover the third and underestimate the first two.

Share your requirement, current setup, and expected timeline. We will help you scope the right service approach quickly.

IoT App Development Cost

The defining constraint in IoT is that the device is in someone else's building. Updates, connectivity drops and power failures are normal, so the software has to assume an unreliable edge and still produce a trustworthy record in the cloud.

Firmware and provisioning come first. They decide what the cloud can trust, so starting at the dashboard inverts the whole build.

A pilot with a few dozen devices and one dashboard typically costs Rs 7,00,000 to Rs 16,00,000. Thousands of devices with over-the-air updates and per-site analytics belong in the upper bands.

Hardware and firmware costs outside the software budget
01
Boards and sensors. Prototype boards are cheap; production boards, enclosures and certification are not, and they sit outside software.
02
Certification. Radio and safety approvals for a connected product are a fixed cost per model and per market.
03
SIM and connectivity. Per-device data plans are a recurring line item that scales with the fleet.
04
Firmware updates. An OTA path needs signed packages, rollback and a staged rollout plan.
05
Field replacement. Devices fail, and the process for identifying, shipping and re-provisioning one is part of the product.
What makes an IoT rollout expensive at scale

The first surprise is time-series volume. A device reporting every ten seconds produces far more rows than a business application, and storage, query and retention decisions have real monthly consequences.

The second is support. When a customer says the reading is wrong, the team needs to know whether the sensor, the gateway, the network or the rule is at fault. Without device-level diagnostics, every such ticket becomes an engineer's afternoon.

Monthly platform cost per connected device

Cloud messaging, time-series storage and compute typically work out to a few rupees per device per month at small scale and fall with volume. Connectivity plans, mapping tiles and alert delivery add to it. The larger operational cost is monitoring the fleet and handling replacements.

Pilot before you manufacture

Run a pilot on prototype hardware in the real environment for a month. Heat, dust, Wi-Fi congestion and power cuts reveal firmware problems that a lab bench never will.

Build the cloud first or the firmware first?

Define the message contract first, then build both against it. Firmware teams and cloud teams that work from a shared schema integrate in days; teams that defer it spend weeks reconciling formats.

Questions for an IoT development team

Ask what happens to readings collected while the device is offline. Ask how a firmware update is rolled back. Ask how they will prove which device produced a given number.

Tell us the device and the environment

Write to [email protected] with the sensors involved, where the devices will be installed and how many sites are planned, or send the same on WhatsApp. Environment and fleet size decide the estimate, not dashboard count.

Frequently Asked Questions
Firmware and provisioning start near Rs 4,00,000. Connectivity and ingestion take the project to Rs 7,00,000 to Rs 16,00,000, while dashboards or fleet management range from Rs 12,00,000 to Rs 1,20,00,000.
Yes. A pilot with tens of devices needs firmware, a message contract, ingestion and one dashboard, which sits in the lower bands. Manufacturing scale, OTA updates and fleet tools raise it sharply.
Firmware logic, sensor integration, provisioning, message contract, cloud ingestion, rules and alerts, user dashboard, device diagnostics, documentation and handover. Hardware, SIM plans and certification are separate.
The device buffers locally with timestamps and forwards when connectivity returns, and the cloud accepts late events without overwriting newer ones. Without that, a network outage becomes a permanent gap in the record.
Yes, with signed packages, staged rollout and rollback. OTA updating is a substantial piece of engineering and should be planned from the start if devices will be in the field for years.
A cellular plan for low-volume telemetry is usually a small monthly charge per device, falling with fleet size. Wi-Fi avoids the plan but shifts the support burden to the customer's network.
Firmware takes eight to fourteen weeks, ingestion twelve to twenty, dashboards eighteen to twenty-eight, and fleet scale twenty-six to forty. Hardware availability is often the critical path.
Through device-level diagnostics: last contact, firmware version, signal quality and raw payload history. Without those four, every data complaint turns into a site visit.
You do. Firmware source, cloud code and the database are handed over, and cloud and connectivity accounts stay in your name. There is no per-device licence fee from us.
