Capacity options: Aspire and TravelMate machines are normally single-option, so the correct reference is the only thing to establish. Where a family offers two packs, the choice is a standard or a higher-capacity version in the same bay, and a smaller pack than the machine was sold with quietly reduces runtime.

How the pack comes out: Aspire volume models are the easy case, screw-down through the base cover with the pack lying flat and clear. TravelMate is broadly the same, with a few thinner models using adhesive. Swift and the slim Aspire lines are adhesive-fixed, while Nitro and Predator are screw-down.

Reading the wear: Acer's own utility, the battery health section of AcerSense or Acer Care Center, reports design capacity, full-charge capacity and cycle count from firmware. The Windows battery report gives the same comparison, so wear is measurable before a quote.

Charge limits: Several Acer models expose a battery calibration or reset option in the BIOS power area. It is a maintenance function, not a charge limit: it re-learns the pack's full-charge figure, and it is worth running after fitting a new battery, because until the pack is cycled the machine can report an under-charge.

• Acer Aspire: The volume line and the easiest Acer batteries to hold, because references are shared across several models. Removal is normally screw-down and labour predictable. Swelling is the commonest reason for replacement, and a swollen pack is a hazardous item.

• Assuming a shared Acer number means any Aspire will take it. The overlap is wide but the label is the check.
